For their latest sample CD, the prolific Zero-G boys turn their hands to the classic sound of piano-driven house music, ripe with melodic synths and euphoric hands-in-the-air moments. It’s unashamedly old school, with familiar sounding hooks and melodies, and a stripped back production style, free of the latest studio tricks and plug-ins.

The DVD content caters to all formats and sampler types, and it’s all sorted into three main categories – construction kits, beats and synth loops. Loops start out around 110BPM up to 130 BPM, and for the musically inclined, all instrument loops are labelled by key – eg. A or F# – for ease of mixing and matching. The synth sets are also catergorized by key and feature the same Midi riff played by various different synth and bass sounds, ranging from thick analogue basses to warm Juno stabs and phase modulated pads. On the whole, samples are presented dry as a bone, ready for producers to sweeten with their own effects magic, reverb and delays. This sample CD sticks to the retro formula of house circa 1990, so if you like it pure and simple, then check it out.
