This composition is based on the Hindustani classical raga named Bhimpalasi. It is a popular raga of the late afternoon. A Raga is an Indian melodic tone structure which in a way can be compared with Western scales. Each raga is an array of melodic structures with musical motifs, considered in the Indian tradition to have the ability to "colour the mind" and affect the emotions of the audience.
The Western equivalent of Bhimpalasi is the modal Dorian key. In this song Raj Mohan sings raga Bhimpalasi and the other Western musicians play in E Dorian (E minor with an augmented 6). Western music knows about 10 to 15 scales that are often used. Indian classical music has thousands of ragas.
