West Coast Hip Hop is a regional genre of Hip Hop music that encompasses any artist or music that originate in the West Coast region of the United States.
While there is no single defining sound, the sound that emerged from the West Coast in the 1980s and 90s was more fast-paced than East Coast Hip Hop and was more influenced by Electronic music. This could be largely credited to the fact that the early local West Coast Hip Hop scene revolved more around DJing than rapping.
The late 1980s saw the rise of Gangsta Rap as a response to the East Coast's Hardcore Hip Hop. It is this West Coast sound that we have concentrated on in our West Coast section on Producer Loops, as well as including some loops and sample packs in the style of the L.A. beat scene of the 2000s that mainly focuses on Instrumental Hip Hop, Glitch Hop and Wonky music.
